MY EXPERIENCE
Traditional bundled firewood isn't very practical for me. Physically, I can't comfortably lift and carry a heavy bundle of wood from a campground office back to my campsite. My small cargo van also doesn't have much spare room, so hauling and storing a bundle of firewood takes up space I need for other gear.
Bringing firewood from another area isn't necessarily a good alternative either, since campgrounds may restrict outside firewood to help prevent the spread of invasive pests.
The Outdoor Firelogs solved those practical problems. I can bring a couple of logs without taking up much room in the van, and they're much easier for me to handle. At camp, a couple of logs gave me roughly a couple of hours of satisfying fire, which was plenty for the kind of evening fire I wanted.
I also chose these particular Outdoor Firelogs because they give me the option of cooking over the fire. My campsite didn't have a grill or cooking grate, so I couldn't cook my steak over it. At a campsite with an appropriate grill or cooking grate, I would. For the kind of camp cooking I do, a couple of hours is more than enough.
COST AND CONVENIENCE
I compared the convenience with buying bundled firewood at the campground. A bundle of pine might last me an evening, and pine burns fairly quickly. The Outdoor Firelogs may cost a little more depending on where you buy them, but for me the convenience was worth it.
I only need to carry the logs I plan to use, they take up very little room in my cargo van, and I don't have to struggle with a heavy bundle of firewood.
MOREAU STAFF NOTE
At Moreau Lake State Park, staff kindly brought two bundles of firewood to my campsite when I asked. I really appreciated that.
I wouldn't assume every campground can provide that service, but it was also a good reminder that sometimes all you have to do is ask.
For future trips, the Outdoor Firelogs give me an option I can manage on my own without needing someone else to carry a heavy bundle of wood.
IMPORTANT NOTE
Not all Duraflame products have the same approved uses. The smaller indoor/outdoor firelogs are not intended for cooking. Check the instructions for the specific product you are using before cooking food over any manufactured firelog.
