WHY I CHOSE IT
The job it needed to do
I wanted dependable refrigeration in a very small van without the daily ice routine. The 31-quart size also needed to hold enough food to make a six-day stay genuinely self-contained.
HOW I USED IT
What it looked like at camp
I used the unit as a refrigerator throughout this trip. The temperature remained consistent, operation was easy and the instructions were uncomplicated.
Because my cargo van is small, I secured the refrigerator in the front passenger-seat area. That location worked well for the overall layout and kept the unit stable.
WHAT I NOTICED
The part a product box cannot tell you
I could hear the compressor switch on, but the sound was not intrusive and did not interfere with camp life.
Its passenger-seat position created one small inconvenience: I could not simply reach over the headrest for something. I generally had to step out of the van to open it. That was not a major problem, though it is one part of the layout I may improve later.
Everything I needed for six days—and more—fit inside. I may have overpacked slightly, but I still had refrigerated food remaining at the end. That meant I did not have to leave camp just to buy ice or replenish cold food.
The unit can also function as a freezer. I did not test freezer performance on this trip. I did recognize that the freezer setting could potentially be used to make ice blocks for a separate traditional cooler, but that remains an option I noticed, not one I tested.
